Occasionally, attending your preferred Pilates or fitness class may not be feasible, leaving you with seemingly limited options. A viable solution is to designate a small area at home to practice the exercises you've learned, allowing you to maintain focus on your training. How should you begin this process? With experience in designing Pilates studios and home gyms for both large residences and compact spaces like studio apartments, I recommend making your setup affordable, functional, and tailored to your needs. Not all equipment suits everyone, so start by determining a budget that aligns with your financial situation. Perhaps you can only invest in a new Pilates mat and have limited space, or maybe you have an empty room and a substantial budget for a comprehensive home Pilates studio. Consider how frequently you will use the equipment and whether you are willing to commit to practicing at home at least a couple of days a week. While there is an array of modern, attractive equipment available, it is crucial that any purchase aligns with your specific fitness goals. I advise trying out all major pieces of equipment and familiarizing yourself with them before buying, which may involve consulting a fitness professional or visiting a store that sells the equipment. Remember that bigger is not necessarily better; prioritize quality and craftsmanship. To determine what is best for you, ensure you have taken numerous classes and training sessions with a certified professional before investing in equipment. Pilates is a long-term endeavor, and mastering the equipment can be even more time-consuming. Discuss your needs with your instructor and identify which equipment you predominantly use to meet them. To help you get started, I have compiled a list of equipment suitable for home use, ranging from a basic home studio to a full Pilates studio. You can also revisit the basics by starting with a new Pilates mat and exploring our YouTube playlist on foundational Pilates exercises here
